At a time when rail professionals are switching to LED lighting, Sammode can offer ultra-effective LED lighting solutions suitable for the specific conditions of the rail industry (lighting in maintenance workshops, inspection pits, warehouses and other external storage areas, tunnels, etc.).

Rail maintenance workshops are places where trains and metro carriages are inspected and repaired during maintenance or after an incident. These workshops span several floors and have to be equipped with high-performance local and general lighting to guarantee that works benefit from optimal working conditions.
Due to the range of heights and the need for suitable lighting at any angle, and also considering the chemical hazards (oil) and water splashes prevailing in these workshops, ultra-solid luminaires must be installed. Lighting must also be able to withstand the electrical disturbances inherent in zones where heavy-duty machinery is operated.

Requirements

  • Chemical attack (oils)
  • Water splashes
  • Electrical disturbances
  • Different heights

Specific requirements apply for the maintenance pits used for rolling stock (trains, metro carriages, trams, buses, etc.) located at the heart of maintenance workshops: effective lighting is required so that operators can inspect and intervene on the lower surfaces of undercarriages without being blinded. Just like in other workshop areas, the luminaires must also be robust and durable considering the various stresses they face.

Sammode has designed a tubular luminaire specifically for inspection pit lighting: the NIEPCE 70 FV. This luminaire is equipped with a removable and reversible gear tray which can be adapted directly at the installation site to right-hand or left-hand cabling. This model is ultra-compact and able to withstand oil, dropped tools and other mechanical impacts. Above all, this luminaire is fitted with dual-oriented optics providing homogeneous lighting on the lower surface of the undercarriage and in the bottom of the pit, while bringing energy consumption down (50% decrease in energy used).

Requirements

  • Chemical attack (oils)
  • Mechanical impacts

Recommended products

  • Niepce FV

Tunnel lighting must be able to resist strong vibrations and be protected from dust and piston effect when trains pass through. These locations are difficult to access, and durable luminaires are a priority to limit the need for maintenance. Tunnel lighting also plays a critical role in ensuring the safety of passengers and train personnel and to protect the train itself.

The lighting equipment installed in both main and secondary tunnels must be flexible, reliable and durable. Thanks to its extensive experience in the worst possible industrial conditions, Sammode can offer the most reliable LED technologies in the most impervious and sturdy tubular housing available on the market in a one-piece design able to keep out dust, guarantee high-strength performance when subjected to positive and negative pressures as trains pass through, offer an appropriate fire rating for the tunnel environment and withstand vibrations.

Requirements

  • Piston effect
  • Fire rating
  • Dust

Luminaires fitted on rail and metro system works trains, which carry out repairs and maintenance on the track, must be able to light up confined spaces and withstand vibrations, as well as withstand the power surges that occur frequently in this type of environment, while remaining protected from projected ballast and other mechanical impacts. Lighting must also be compatible with year-round outdoor use and be able to withstand UV radiation and bad weather.

Sammode tubular luminaires are ultra-durable and solid by design, as well as being easy to install, with a range of potential configurations for electrical connections (classes 1, 2 or 3). Sammode can also offer a wide range of models, ensuring that lighting can be adapted to any type of situation, regardless of the required dimensions or power rating.

Requirements

  • UV radiation and bad weather
  • Power surges
  • Vibrations
  • Mechanical impacts

Recommended products

  • Foucault

  • Cugnot Xtrem

As is the case at many industrial sites, the areas around rail maintenance buildings and their outdoor storage zones require suitable lighting to ensure the comfort and safety of personnel and to protect equipment. While this type of lighting apparently faces less extreme conditions than lighting in other zones, the luminaires must withstand repeated exposure to bad weather, UV radiation and high temperatures.

On this basis, luminaires installed on walkways, staircases and the façades of buildings, but also LED floodlights installed high up (around warehouses) or on masts (to light up train stabling or storage tracks), must be built to last to minimise maintenance and provide optimal lighting at all times.

Requirements

  • UV radiation and bad weather
  • Corrosion

Recommended products

  • Pascal

Tube ø100 and 133 for industrial atmospheres

  • Sill 48 Xtrem

Industrial floodlight for lighting indoor and outdoor infrastructures in extreme environments

Emergency lighting plays a critical role in rail maintenance workshops and tunnels as it guarantees the safety of personnel and public transport users in the event of a power outage. Emergency lighting must provide guidance during an evacuation, as well as prevent panic to avoid any risk of a crowd crush.

More than any other type of luminaire, emergency lighting must be reliable, durable and solid. These standalone emergency lighting (BAES) models provide guidance during an evacuation, but also provide replacement lighting solutions which can maintain minimal lighting levels for 3 hours, thanks to lithium-ion batteries, to give personnel and passengers enough time to reach safety and potentially for emergency responders to take action.

Requirements

  • Dust
  • Evacuation route
  • No risk of parts projecting

Recommended products

  • Coulomb

Central source or independent emergency lighting

  • Maxwell

Central source or independent emergency lighting, permanent/non-permanent, for industrial environments
