Sammode, French lighting manufacturer and lighting expert for almost 100 years, is a sponsor of Archi-Folies, the architecture exhibition at the heart of the Parc de la Villette, open until July 7 and again from August 28 to September 3.. Twenty ephemeral pavilions featuring innovative architecture, designed and implemented by students from the Ecoles Nationales Supérieures d’Architecture et de Paysage (ENSAP), will host 20 sports federations (rowing, archery, gymnastics, horse-riding, wrestling…) on the Club France site during the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. An educational and unifying program that expresses the meeting of architecture, education, industry, research and sport, to which Sammode is proud to contribute by supplying luminaires as part of its patronage.
A total of 124 Sammode “light tubes” are used for signage, corridors and a number of sports pavilions, providing both architectural and functional lighting for this exhibition, which celebrates architecture, innovation and sustainability – values dear to Sammode. The luminaires, all of which were reused – they were originally installed at the Stade Jean Bouin in the 16th arrondissement of Paris or in Paris offices – were completely dismantled, reconditioned and, in some cases, converted to LEDs, to provide optimal architectural lighting and contribute to the sustainable dimension sought by the event’s organizers.
For many years, Sammode has been supporting the world of architecture and culture through sponsorship and partnerships with academic, museum and cultural institutions. In particular, Sammode has highlighted several spaces at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle (ENSCI) in Paris. It is also a regular partner of the Pavillon de l’Arsenal, the Palais de Tokyo and the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine in Paris, as well as the Villa Noailles art center in Hyères, to name but a few.
By becoming a patron of Archi-folies, Sammode wished to renew its commitment to architecture through a unique scenography, carefully thought out to sublimate the work of ENSA students through light. Sammode supplied general and facade lighting for the pavilions, scaffolding lighting, signage bearing the name of the school and the sports federation, and deck lighting. A complete ephemeral urban lighting project.

Made entirely in France, at their historic factory in Châtillon-sur-Saône, in the Vosges, Sammode luminaires are characterized primarily by their design, quality, technological innovation and durability. Indeed, the almost century-old manufacturer designs all its products with the aim of guaranteeing extreme longevity, thanks to a design based on the use of robust materials that enable repairability, technological evolution over time and easy recycling at end-of-life.

By giving a second life to old lighting fixtures, this project is perfectly in line with sustainability and the preservation of the planet’s resources. For Sammode, repairing rather than replacing, reconditioning rather than discarding whenever possible, is a question of “common sense”. And to take things a step further, the manufacturer is looking into the possibility of giving these 124 luminaires a “3rd life”, by reusing them once again at the end of this temporary exhibition at the Grande Halle de la Villette.
