The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), located in the heart of Luxembourg’s Kirchberg district, is an emblematic architectural ensemble that embodies the modernity and institutionality of European law. Its extension, designed by architect Dominique Perrault, redefines the relationship between space and light by enveloping the historic building in a suspended ring, creating a subtle dialogue between classical and contemporary architecture.
Sammode was chosen above all for the quality and aesthetics of its lighting solutions. The architecture of the courtyard called for lighting that would sublimate the lines and volumes, while ensuring a clear, fluid perception of the spaces. The lighting approach had to be both precise and discreet, without altering the building’s identity, while offering optimum visual comfort. Thanks to a perfect mastery of photometry and a streamlined design, Sammode luminaires blend harmoniously into the architecture, revealing the materiality of the facades and accompanying interior circulation with homogeneous, controlled light.
On the exterior volumes, the light emphasizes the rhythm of the metal porticos and accentuates their verticality, reinforcing the visual impact of the building in its environment. Inside, work and circulation areas benefit from comfortable, diffused light, avoiding any sensation of glare. The quality of the lighting contributes to the building’s muted, institutional atmosphere, essential in a space dedicated to European justice.
This project illustrates how carefully considered lighting can enhance architecture and reinforce its identity. More than just a functional element, lighting plays an essential role in the perception of spaces and the experience of users. By offering luminaires that combine performance and aesthetic finesse, Sammode has established itself as a partner of choice for exceptional architectural projects.
