The Aqua-Libris multimedia library in Saint-Maixent-l’École is a remarkable example of architectural conversion. Formerly a military swimming pool built in the 1930s using the Hennebique reinforced concrete system, it has been transformed into a bright, welcoming cultural space.
The interior lighting was designed to highlight the original architecture while ensuring optimum visual comfort for users. Sammode luminaires were chosen to modulate color temperature, providing an ambience adapted to the different areas of the media library. This flexibility helps create an atmosphere conducive to reading, concentration or relaxation, depending on the space.
The lighting performance of the equipment guarantees controlled brightness, essential for the comfort of readers and the enhancement of books. The design of the luminaires blends harmoniously with the aesthetics of the site, highlighting the original volumes and materials without distorting them.
This project illustrates the importance of lighting designed to be consistent with architecture and usage, capable of revealing the uniqueness of a place while providing a functional and inspiring setting for its occupants.
