Sammode x EDF
Development of a new
generation of LED lighting solutions
for the most demanding radiological areas.
Following a particularly rigorous and demanding call for tenders, Sammode has been selected to carry out an Innovation Partnership contract with EDF. The aim of this contract is to develop a new generation of LED lighting solutions (linear luminaires, floodlights, emergency lighting, beacons) for the most demanding radiological zones of existing and future reactors.
This choice reflects recognition of Sammode’s unique expertise in the nuclear environment and our long-standing collaboration with EDF.
Since the 1970s, Sammode has been equipping the entire fleet of nuclear power plants with luminaires designed to withstand the extreme demands of the different plant zones and their specific constraints (chemical, mechanical, electrical or sealing).
In 2008, Sammode was chosen to supply class 1 and 2 luminaires as part of the OEEI program, working to renovate and maintain nuclear facilities at 19 sites. Since 2018, we have also been supporting EDF in its technological transition from fluorescent lighting to LEDs.
As an extension of this collaboration, EDF has entrusted us with the co-development of luminaires with a radiation resistance of up to 100 kGy. To bring this innovation program to fruition, our R&D teams are drawing on the skills of two partner laboratories, ATRON and ENGIE Laborelec, to support us in the prototyping and testing phases.
