The Q-Park Chavanelle parking lot, located in the heart of Saint-Étienne, has been designed to offer comfort and safety to motorists, while incorporating innovative lighting solutions. Like all underground parking lots, it requires efficient lighting to ensure good visibility and a sense of security for users, while optimizing the site’s energy consumption.
The lighting was designed to provide even illumination, avoiding shadowy areas that could impede the orientation and visual comfort of drivers and pedestrians. Sammode luminaires were chosen for their reliability and resistance to the specific conditions of a parking lot: humidity, dust, exhaust fumes and temperature variations. Their robust, waterproof design ensures long-lasting performance, limiting maintenance requirements and guaranteeing quality lighting over the long term.
Thanks to an intelligent lighting system combined with motion sensors, light intensity adapts to the presence of users. When no movement is detected, the light is dimmed to reduce energy consumption, then instantly increased as soon as a vehicle or pedestrian is detected. This approach makes it possible to reconcile comfort, safety and energy efficiency, achieving substantial savings while guaranteeing lighting performance at the right moment.
Thanks to their sober, functional design, these luminaires blend discreetly into the architecture of the parking lot, while providing clear, reassuring light. This project illustrates the importance of well-designed lighting in urban infrastructures, where light is not limited to a practical function, but also contributes to the user experience and the perception of space, while integrating responsible and sustainable solutions.
